Nashville Eats: Local Taco

If you find yourself in Nashville like we did a few months back and on the hunt for local food spots, then you have to hit up the Local Taco. A slowly expanding chain that has it’s roots in Nashville where the original location still stands at Sylvan Park, Local Taco features a small menu of Tex-Mex items inspired by local, regional, and even international flavors.

The Sylvan Park location has limited seating inside with a bar and a large covered patio area. We were there at an odd time of day – I think it was around 3:00 – so the place was pretty quiet with only a few patrons. However, this meant we were able to place our order, find a table and get our food quickly and painlessly. (Tip for newbies: order at the hostess stand and then find a seat. We were a little unsure of what to do upon walking inside.) It did not mean that parking was a breeze. To be honest, this locations’ parking situation is lackluster at best. Majority of parking is behind the restaurant in a small parking area that is difficult for more than one car at a time to maneuver. Anyway, the special on the House Margaritas and the delicious tex-mex made up for any difficulty.

Speaking of margaritas, the Local Taco house-made margarita went down too easy. It had the perfect blend of classic margarita flavors. The hubs ordered two he enjoyed it so much. šŸ™‚

So what do you get to eat at Local Taco? Well, tacos of course. Almost every item on the menu is a la carte so you can order what you wish. But the prices are very reasonable unlike a lot of a la carte restaurants. An individual taco is $2.75 and sides are $2.00. We had a very filling and satisfying lunch with drinks for around $30.

Remington ordered the Local BBQ taco and the Tequila Lime Chicken taco with the Mexi Tater Tots.

I ordered the Carnitas taco, the Korean BBQ taco, and the Fish taco. I can’t go anywhere and not get the fish taco. It’s my thing. Each of the tacos we ordered were perfectly cooked – the meat tender and full of flavor. The toppings added the perfect compliment to the flavors in the meat. Our favorites were the Korean and the Local BBQ.

But nothing takes a cake to the Mexi Tater Tots. We asked the hostess (as we often do in a new restaurant) her recommendations and she wholeheartedly suggested the Mexi Tater Tots. Naturally, we couldn’t pass them up, nor did we want to share with each other. So we both got our own order. šŸ˜‰ These were huge crispy fried tater tots filled with mexican flavors like peppers and topped with a heavenly creamy spicy sauce.

In short, a great place in Nashville to find delicious, affordable tex-mex, a good margarita, and excellent service. And don’t forget to order the tater tots.
