Kaffir-Lime-Jalapeno-Cranberry-Sauce-03With how crazy and hectic the holiday season gets for us, we love recipes that whip up in a flash and can still be a showstopper dish. We are going to be sharing a few new quick an easy, but delicious dishes to add to your menu this season! And homemade cranberry sauce is a must-have at our Thanksgiving table. None of that canned glop for us. Nope, nosiree. No offense to those of you staunchly housed on the side of the gelatinous chunk-free store-bought version. I know this is typically a very partisan discussion – so are you in the canned camp or firmly planted on the homemade highway? Kaffir-Lime-Jalapeno-Cranberry-Sauce-01For us, it’s homemade all the way. And this year, we tried something new…a departure from the traditional sweet and tart dish…with Urban Accents’ Kaffir Lime and Jalapeno seasoning mix. Toss in cranberries, orange juice, a bit of sugar, a splash of tequila, and you’ve got yourself a unique twist to serve up to Turkey day guests. I mean, our recipe for classic cranberry sauce is winner winner cranberry dinner and nothing has yet to compare, but this was an interesting change. Bitey from the lime and a kick of spice from the jalapeno – the perfect partner to your day-after turkey sandwich. You can order the seasoning packet from Urban Accents’ website or we have found their products at Fresh Market and World Market.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb cranberries
  • 1 cup orange mango juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 package of Urban Accents' Kaffir Lime & Jalapeno Standout Sides seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp tequila optional
  • lime zest for garnish

Instructions

  • Bring the cranberries, orange mango juice, sugar and contents of seasoning packet to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until cranberries burst and the sauce starts to thicken; about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in tequila (if using). Pour into a bowl to cook and garnish with lime zest. Serve at room temperature.
  • One batch serves 10-12 with smaller serving sizes or 6-8 with generous helpings.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for a few weeks or in the freezer for a few months.
