Cocktail know-how is a necessity if you want to be a respectable host. Or, just like to have a good cocktail. Especially with this heinous heatwave, it’s almost refreshing. The margarita is wildly popular for a reason. It’s tasty. However, it needs to be balanced appropriately. It needs the right amounts of tart/sweet/smooth drinkability to be a big hit. Fortunately for you all, I have such a recipe. For a smooth margarita that isn’t sickly sweet, or taste like a bucket mixer at a beach party, it comes down to the quality of ingredients. Picking a good tequila is step one. I’m not saying you need to throw down $60 on a bottle of Patron, but don’t skimp and grab something off the bottom shelf either. We like to use silver tequila, preferably 100% agave. The smoother the tequila, well…you know. Second, fresh lime juice. Third (and this is the “secret”) simply syrup. Adding just a little bit will cut the tartness of the limes, and tone down the tequila burn. In other words, it makes for a far more palette-able drink. And because I like a little festivity with my drink, we’re throwing in some blue curaçao, because…FUN.
Recipe makes 1 Margarita.
Ingredients
- 1-1/2 oz Silver tequila (Preferably 100% Agave)
- 1-1/2 oz Fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1 oz Blue Curacao
- 1/2 oz Cointreau
- 1 oz Simple syrup
Instructions
Toss all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake, shake, shake...
Strain over crushed ice
For Frozen: Toss all ingredients + 1/2-3/4 cup crushed ice and blend until smooth

Is this that same blue concoction you made in Seaside?? Because I need to try it now that i can actually drink.

It most certainly is! Though, I didn’t have the simple syrup handy then. It’s way better with the little bit o’ sugar to cut through the tartness and alcohol.
