Apparently it’s National Wine Day, so this post is perfect timing! We enjoyed a quick drink and bite to eat at Water into Wine last weekend before heading to a dinnertime showing of Beauty and the Beast! Here’s a little recap for those wondering what this cute bistro located in Farragut is all about – I’ll give you a hint: lots of wine!
Water into Wine is located on Campbell Station Road in the shopping center with Little Bangkok. It’s a small space in the middle of the shopping center, so could be easy to overlook, but there are lots of reasons why you shouldn’t miss it!
First is the epic wine list. As you’d expect at a wine bar called Water into Wine, they have an extensive collection of wines by the glass and by the bottle!
But they also have a great menu of cocktails and beer. We didn’t try any during this visit, but don’t those specialty cocktails all sound amazing?
Water into Wine is also a tapas bar where you can enjoy a light snack, heavy h’orderves, or a full meal. The food menu features everything from soups and salads to shareable tapas items like ahi tuna, meatballs, and deviled eggs.
Not surprising for a wine bar, there are several “boards” to choose from that you can pair with your wine selections. There are two cheese boards, a charcuterie board, an olive board, and a chocolate dessert board. If you are looking for more shareable appetizer style foods, they have three different dips to order, but if you are in the mood for a full meal, the three different flatbreads on the menu may interest you. What I noted about their menu is the obvious amount of creativity that went into developing it and the fresh ingredients they are using. I appreciate their use of ingredients in unique ways too like the mustard garbanzo paste on the turkey flatbread and the brulee brie.
They have happy hour every single day from 4:00-6:00 where you can order most wines by the glass for half price. The wines included in happy hour are marked with a green dot on the menu. I look pretty thrilled about it. Haha.
They also feature a couple of wine flights daily with three varietals of the same type of wine – so the day we were there W2W had a rose flight and a red flight offering. The wine flights are regularly $12 each for a 2 ounce pour of each wine. This is a great deal, but it’s even better during happy hour when their flights are also half price!!
The rosé flight included the El Coto from Spain, the Noble Vines from Cali Coast, and the Le Figuier from Provence. All of these were delicious, crisp, refreshing glasses of rose. My favorites were the last two. The Noble Vines really opened up as it sat for a few minutes and was allowed to breath – the heavy fruit flavor really came through.
The reds were a Corvina from Italy, Pinot Noir from the Monterey region of the California Coast and a Merlot from Cental Cali Coast. The Irony Pinot Noir was a very good wine. I love a good pinot noir – it is my favorite varietal. BUT while I do not often enjoy Merlot because I find a lot of them very flat, a well done Merlot wine can be just delicious, and this Donati ended up being my favorite red featured in this flight. In fact, I ended up getting a full glass of it before happy hour ended to enjoy while we continued noshing.
Speaking of noshing, I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite having a TON of cheese on their menu, Water into Wine also caters to those with a restricted diet, even those of us currently dairy free. The menu denotes what items are gluten free and vegetarian, but not specifically dairy free. However, I was able to discuss with our server what menu items would work best. We ordered a small Charcuterie plate (I just avoided the cheeses) and the BLT Flat to share. And yes, this is the SMALL Charcuterie plate. Our server said the large is HUGE and more than enough to share, but knowing we also wanted to try something else we were glad we chose the small size. It was just perfect for the two of us to share, although we both agreed there could have been more of the bacon pate since we fought over every last bite. The pickled veggies were a nice balance to the saltiness from all of the meats.
The BLT Flat is a baked flat bread with a homemade creamy tomato spread, crispy bacon, grape tomatoes and fresh arugula. The tomato spread bakes down into the flatbread itself into a creamy sauce and then it’s piled with loads of bacon, sweet plump baked up grape tomatoes, and a mess of arugula. I thought this was pretty tasty. Great flavors, a TON of bacon and really reminded me of a BLT.
So there you have it…if you were curious about the cute little wine lounge located in Farragut, well, now you know it’s not to be missed. Go check it out during happy hour, have a flight or two of wine and some yummy snacks!
