The Disney Dream received enhancements in late 2015, which included a new sweets shop outside of Cabana’s on Deck 11. We had to check it out!
Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats has an entrance inside of Cabana’s on the starboard side as well as the entrance from the pool deck as seen above. It replaced what apparently used to be an arcade area.
Just inside the entrance to the right is a fun photo spot where you can climb into Vanellope’s car or stand on the winner’s podium next to King Candy. We loved the theming in here – Disney Imagineers did an outstanding job.
This bright, colorful candy shop is worth popping into if for no other reason than to just soak up the fun atmosphere and say hello to Vanellope herself. The floor is made to look like a race track, the walls like pieces of colorful candy, and there are even peppermint candy lights.
You can pick up a giant lollipop or candy by the pound. There is a selection of bulk candy along the back wall for $9.95 per pound – everything from Hot Tamales to Lemon Heads. See a full list of what’s available here.
The main event here at Vanellope’s though is the ice cream and gelato! You can order a simple scoop of ice cream for $2.50 or gelato for $2.95 or go all out with an artisan sundae.
The Leaderboard is dynamic and changes based on the popularity of each sundae.
Ralph’s Family Challenge is a mere $14.95 for 6 scoops of ice cream, 6 toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry all served in a giant souvenir trophy cup. Not feeling up to the challenge? You could try Vanellope Von Schweetz Race Kart Sundae for $12.95 instead featuring 3 scoops of ice cream and 5 toppings. Interested in a regular sized sundae? They are all either $4.95 or $5.95 each.
Ice cream flavors rotate out daily so that you don’t know what they might be serving on your cruise, but there is space for 16 flavors at one time. During our 3-day cruise, they had flavors such as Passion Fruit Mango, Midnight Cookies N Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, Dulche De Leche, Carrot Cake & Cheesecake, NSA Vanilla Chocolate, Raspberry Sorbet, Mango Sorbet, Belgian Chocolate, Peanut Butter Cup, Strawberry Cheesecake Chunk, French Vanilla, Cookie Dough Dynamo, Black Cherry Frozen Yogurt, Salted Caramel, and King Candy.
Gelato flavors also rotate out daily so that you don’t know what they might be serving on your cruise, but there is space for 20 flavors of homemade Italian-style gelato at one time. During our 3-day cruise, they had flavors such as Tiramisu, Mixed Berry, Pistachio Varigato, Cup Cake, Pina Colada, White Chocolate & Roasted Almond, Kit Kat, Oreo Cookies ‘N’ Cream, Apple Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Honey Comb, Chocolate Orange, Butter Pecan, Snickers, Blueberry Lemon, Candy Explosion, Amareno Cherry, Mango Swirl Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, and Hazelnut. If you struggle with deciding on a flavor or flavors like me, never fear they will allow you to sample as many flavors as you like!
There is a toppings bar to enhance your gelato or ice cream and to make selections for your artisan sundae. Sorry, this is not self service – there is a clear glass barrier. They had just about every topping you could dream up though, including fresh fruit, nuts, candies, brownie chunks, gummy bears, and even caramel popcorn!
As if ice cream or gelato and candy aren’t enough sweets for you or maybe they don’t suit your taste, there are also two bakery display cases full of homemade cupcakes, bars, macarons, truffles, cookies, caramel apples, fudge, and more!
Rest assured there are plenty of choices at Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats to appease any sweet tooth!
Of course, we couldn’t pass up the homemade gelato! I never miss an opportunity for good Italian style ice cream. This is a single scoop of the Honey Comb gelato!! The servings here are very generous! The Honey Comb of course had a distinct honey flavor, but not cloyingly sweet, with chunks of real toasted honeycomb throughout that reminded me of slightly burnt caramel (in a good way). It was quite delicious. No, it wasn’t the best gelato I’ve ever tasted, but a unique flavor executed well and up there with some of the better ones.
Next time you are on the Disney Dream, pay a visit to Vanellope and have some gelato. At $2.95 for a giant single scoop, we felt it was a really good Disney value!
