This is the prettiest little cocktail…it’s too bad blood oranges aren’t in season at Christmas because this is the most festive looking drink we’ve ever made. It’s sweet, citrusy, and spicy with jalapeno infused tequila and blood orange juice.
Last week was National Margarita Day and we couldn’t let the day pass by without celebrating. We’d been dreaming up this cocktail for a couple of weeks since blood oranges are in season so this was the perfect opportunity to finally whip it up.
This margarita is a delicious twist on my husband’s classic recipe. We infused the tequila with fresh jalapeno for 5-6 hours and substituted a portion of the lime juice for fresh blood orange juice. We also threw in a splash of Royal Rose Three Chile simple syrup for an added hit of spice. If you don’t have the three chile simple syrup, then just a splash of regular simple syrup will work fine.
Instead of salting the rim, it gets a coating of orange sugar – a mixture of fresh blood orange zest and raw sugar. This was the perfect compliment to the heat in the drink! And just look at how pretty it makes the glasses. They totally look like they are adorned with little flecks of gold.
Makes two margaritas because you can't drink something this good alone! Ingredients Instructions Slice jalapeno. Infuse tequila with jalapeno by placing slices into tequila for 5-6 hours in the refrigerator. When ready to use, set jalapeno slices to the side.
Combine bourbon vanilla sugar and orange zest on a plate. If you cannot find bourbon vanilla sugar, raw sugar or brown sugar will work.
Rim a chilled margarita glass with the sugar mixture by running an orange slice over the rim and then dipping it into the mixture.
In a shaker, combine infused tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup.
Pour into the chilled, rimmed margarita glass filled with ice.
Top with a few of the discarded jalapeno slices.
Throw in a few of those infused jalapeno slices to top it off if you are brave…and drink up…this margarita gets spicier the longer it sits. 😉 Enjoy!!
